I really enjoy Sarah Pekkanen when she writes with Geer Hendricks but had never read anything that she had written alone until last year but I fully enjoyed "Gone Tonight" so I asked for an arc of this and was lucky enough to receive one. I fully enjoyed this novel. It is mostly a phycological thriller with a tiny bit of horror thrown in for good measure. 


 Stella never accepts clients under thirteen due to her own traumatic childhood, but Stella's mentor, a revered judge, believes Stella is the only one who can help nine year old Rose who witnessed the the could be murder of her nanny. As Stella begins to look into what Rose witnessed things begin to look darker than  Stella could ever imagine. This was an excellent novel filled with suspense and a bit of dread.

4.5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Cornerstone Digital for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review. Pre World War 1 Europe and the Goldbaum family are an extremely wealthy banking dynasty. Greta Goldbaum from Vienna does not really want to marry her English cousin Albert she does it anyway as that is what is expected and though Greta is a defiant girl she also knows that the sometimes you have to do what is expected. Greta is a fun, gregarious girl while Albert is a serious and quiet man. This novel takes us up through most of World War 1 and we follow the family through it all. With the war brewing we see how anti semitism began to take control of certain parts of Europe. A sweeping tale with Greta at the center this was a novel that I could not put down and though it was a bit long I managed to read it in 24 hours. When Ally arrives at work without her purse and wet from the rain her boss is shocked to see her. Why? She hasn't worked there in ages.
