I have been wanting to read T. Kingfisher for awhile so I was excited to see this on Netgalley and I am super happy because this was really good. I have added a new author to my list of favorites.   Mary Robinette Kowal was a really good narrator who was great at making Sam feel very real .


 Sam Montgomery was very super excited to visit her Mom. She so rarely gets a chance to visit her Mom in North Carolina and it has been ages since she to to see her Grandmother's home . It was always pleasant being raised there but her single Mom really had no choice so they put up with her mean, racist Grandmother.  What she finds when she arrives though is something she never expected. Her liberal, leftist hippie Mom is acting strange and the house that her Mom had changed after her Grandmother's death was back to the way it was before. Her Mother's bright colors and happy decor gone. As the visit goes on she begins to realize there is something very wrong with the house. Something dangerous.


I always love a haunted house story and this was a good and different story.

4.5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Cornerstone Digital for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review. Pre World War 1 Europe and the Goldbaum family are an extremely wealthy banking dynasty. Greta Goldbaum from Vienna does not really want to marry her English cousin Albert she does it anyway as that is what is expected and though Greta is a defiant girl she also knows that the sometimes you have to do what is expected. Greta is a fun, gregarious girl while Albert is a serious and quiet man. This novel takes us up through most of World War 1 and we follow the family through it all. With the war brewing we see how anti semitism began to take control of certain parts of Europe. A sweeping tale with Greta at the center this was a novel that I could not put down and though it was a bit long I managed to read it in 24 hours. When Ally arrives at work without her purse and wet from the rain her boss is shocked to see her. Why? She hasn't worked there in ages. After Ally goes to the hospital she is told that she is experiencing a dissociative fugue state. Now she must work to figure out what is causing this and what her triggers are. As she begins to search for her missing she finds out that she has been missing for two days and when she asks her husband why he didn't tell the doctors when he went to pick her up his excuse seems a bit odd to her. Will Ally be able to solve the mystery behind what is going on with her before it is too late?  Pick up this fun thriller! It is a great way to spend a day or two!
