I want to thank Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to read/listen to this novel in exchange for an honest review. 


First off I want to say that Nicky Endres was a fantastic narrator who really captured the main characters various voices well.  The author, Alison Rumfitt really weaved a dark and scary novel. When I say dark I mean dark! I really don't think I have ever read something like this. When I heard about this and then saw the fantastic cover I knew I wanted to read this. Be warned here, pay attention to the triggers because they are not messing around when they mention this.


When they were teenagers Alice,Hannah and  Ila ignored the keep out sign, ignored the stories and went into the house everyone knows to stay out of. Only Alice & Ila come out and their friendship was destroyed.


Now something is calling the women back and they have no choice but to return. There is so much going here, so many layers and though this novel may not be for everyone it will be for those who like dark and bleak this is for you. Be prepared to be put through as I was but I am glad that I was able to read this. A really good novel.

4.5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Cornerstone Digital for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review. Pre World War 1 Europe and the Goldbaum family are an extremely wealthy banking dynasty. Greta Goldbaum from Vienna does not really want to marry her English cousin Albert she does it anyway as that is what is expected and though Greta is a defiant girl she also knows that the sometimes you have to do what is expected. Greta is a fun, gregarious girl while Albert is a serious and quiet man. This novel takes us up through most of World War 1 and we follow the family through it all. With the war brewing we see how anti semitism began to take control of certain parts of Europe. A sweeping tale with Greta at the center this was a novel that I could not put down and though it was a bit long I managed to read it in 24 hours. When Ally arrives at work without her purse and wet from the rain her boss is shocked to see her. Why? She hasn't worked there in ages. After Ally goes to the hospital she is told that she is experiencing a dissociative fugue state. Now she must work to figure out what is causing this and what her triggers are. As she begins to search for her missing she finds out that she has been missing for two days and when she asks her husband why he didn't tell the doctors when he went to pick her up his excuse seems a bit odd to her. Will Ally be able to solve the mystery behind what is going on with her before it is too late?  Pick up this fun thriller! It is a great way to spend a day or two!
