~*Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver*~

The very first novel by Lauren Oliver that I read was "Before I Fall". I fell madly in love with that book,the writing was lyrical and the story was beautiful. Yes, it was a concept that had been done before but the way that Lauren Oliver wrote this book was just perfect in every way. I have since rad "Panic" as well as "Liesel & Po" and "The Spindlers" and I really liked them. However this book had a hard time holding my interest. I started it a while ago and I was having such a hard time getting into it I actually ended up reading two other books before picking this one back up.

I really love Lauren Oliver's writing style so really that had nothing to do with it. Nick was a very likable character though Dara was not even in her journal issues she was not likable. I really hated her parts of the story. I also am like many other that found the twist to be a bit obvious. You knew what it was from almost the very start.

I really wanted to love this book but I ended up just feeling like it is really nothing special. I give it 2.75 stars for Lauren's writing.

4.5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher Cornerstone Digital for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel for an honest review. Pre World War 1 Europe and the Goldbaum family are an extremely wealthy banking dynasty. Greta Goldbaum from Vienna does not really want to marry her English cousin Albert she does it anyway as that is what is expected and though Greta is a defiant girl she also knows that the sometimes you have to do what is expected. Greta is a fun, gregarious girl while Albert is a serious and quiet man. This novel takes us up through most of World War 1 and we follow the family through it all. With the war brewing we see how anti semitism began to take control of certain parts of Europe. A sweeping tale with Greta at the center this was a novel that I could not put down and though it was a bit long I managed to read it in 24 hours.
