3.75 out of 5 stars  I want to thank Netgalley and Minotaur Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. When I asked to review this book I didn't realize it was the fourth novel in a series but it is very easy to follow along. As Gemma narrates her story she drops enough info about her town, the people that live there and all the relationships in her life that she makes it very easy to follow along.. This definitely feels like a cozy mystery as it is set in a small town full of interesting characters. I view reading in the way I view food and this book was a great form of comfort food.

I really have had a great year of reading and "Trace of Evil" has kept the streak going. Natalie Lockhart is a cop in the sleepy town of Burning Lake in upstate New York. Burning Lake is a tourist town that tends to make most of it's money from the history of killing witches. There are magic shops everywhere and graveyard tours for those interested, Heck, the police cars even used to have a witch riding a broom painted on them. The town is always full of teenagers in covens and it also tends to attract satanists as well. While people often want to leave their small towns behind Natalie has no desire to ever leave. Ava is living the kind of life most people would love. She is married to a successful tech multi millionaire has a step son and two lovely daughters until one evening when everything changes.. Shortly after arriving home from picking up her 12 year old daughter June from a friend's house she goes upstairs to shower only to hear a strange noise and gets out to investigate. What she finds is her husband Robert and daughter being held at gunpoint.    With her daughter lying in the hospital in a coma Ava will do anything and everything it takes to find out who is responsible. Life seems to be going pretty well until one Wednesday when she gets a whispered phone call tell her that they will use a cheese wire on her. Of course she is freaked out, I mean who wouldn't be? Her boss, work friend's and boyfriend to her not to worry.  That she is a reporter and there are all kinds of people that harassing reporters with whom they do not agree. Claire and her husband Ethan are still devastated over the loss of their son Colton  from a condition caused by Claire's mitochondrial  DNA.
