~*Sometimes I Lie by Alice Feeney*~

I think this is definitely a book that is made to be listened to. The narrator was really good and as I listened to this it felt like I was listening to someone's secret confessions.   My name is Amber Reynolds. There are three things you should know about me:  1. I’m in a coma.  2. My husband doesn’t love me anymore.  3. Sometimes I lie.  The story begins as Amber realizes that she is in a coma. She can hear everything going on around her for short periods of time before she fades again.  As Amber tries to gather her memories to figure out just how she ended up here we go from her present to a week prior as well as a trip in the past where we are treated to diary entries from 1991/92.  This is the type of book that I feel an in depth review would end up giving too much away so I just want to say a few things. Amber is not always a likeable character and yet you will find yourself rooting for her anyway. The imagery as Amber struggles wit...

~*The Death of Mrs. Westaway by Ruth Ware*~

5 Stars I am one of those people that just does not get people that are not fans of Ruth Ware. I really do find her books to be so atmospheric. She really knows how to paint a picture. This was the best book I have read from her yet! Harriet (Hal) is in deep and she doesn't know how to get out of it. She has barely been able to keep her head above water since her death of her Mother. Hal makes her living the way her Mother did, doing Tarot readings on the pier. The problem is Hal owes a lot of money and loan sharks are at the door threatening her. Then one day out of the blue a letter arrives that could change everything. It seems that Harriet Westaway is an heir to an estate. Is she the Harriet Westaway they are looking for? Maybe not but after spending her whole life struggling she feels like maybe passing herself off as the proper heir is pretty much a victimless crime. A quick search shows that the Westaways have so much, she is certain that they could spare a little money....

~*Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks*~

A solid 4.75 star rating from me! Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Charlotte's longtime friend Harriet has always been overly protective of her 4 year old daughter Alice. So protective she seems to never allow Alice out of her site. So when Harriet approaches Charlotte to ask her to watch after Alice and take her to a school faire so that Harriet attend a bookkeeping course Charlotte is honored to be asked. It seems like an easy task, after all she has been planning to take her three children to the faire anyway. What could go wrong? It turns out a lot actually. As Charlotte waits outside a bouncy run with her littlest daughter for her son, eldest daughter and Alice to finish it ends up only her children come out. Alice is nowhere to be found. As Harriet begins to live through the worse nightmare a parent can live through and things are not much easier for Charlotte. None of Charlotte's fri...

~*The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid*~

An overwhelming five stars! I have wanted to read this book since it came out and all of my favorite booktubers raved about it! Let me just say that they were completely right! This is my favorite book that I have read this year. I am obsessed with old Hollywood but this was the perfect book for me. I listened to the audio and the narrator was fantastic. Monique Grant who is definitely the low man on the totem pole for the magazine she she works for so both her and her boss are shocked when Hollywood legend Evelyn Hugo wants Monique to write a story about her. Monique thinks she is writing a story covering the auction of all of Evelyn's gowns for breast cancer research in memory of her daughter. Little does Monique know Evelyn really wants Monique to write her biography, including all the details about her seven marriages.  The big question? Who is the love of Evelyn's life? The answer may surprise you.   With each story that Evelyn shares we get closer and closer t...

~*The Silencer, Vol. 1: Code of Honor*~by Dan Abnett (Goodreads Author), John Romita Jr. (Illustrations), Viktor Bogdanovic (Illustrations)

This is a full five stars from me. My hubby wanted me to read this and I finally sat down and read this. I really, really enjoyed it! For me this graphic novel really had a John Wick feel. Honor/Silencer is a retired assassin who once worked for a criminal organization Leviathan under Talia al Ghul whom she feels a strong family bond with. After living the life as an assassin for so long though she is tired of it and wants to make a life of her own, perhaps make a real family. Talia agrees to let Silencer go if she does one more job for her. In doing so she ends up starting a war in the underlife. This jumps back and forth between the past and present. The story is wonderfully written and I loved most of the art. I must admit that I am not a fan of John Romita's art and often if I don't like the artist it will affect my enjoyment of the book but in this case the story was so strong it did not change my feelings at all. It also didn't hurt that he only did the art for a few ...

~*Once Upon A River by Diane Setterfield *~

I would like to thank Netgalley and  Atria/Emily Bestler Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this lovely historical fantasy to read and review! 4.5 stars The Swan is a quaint, family run pub near the river Thames where everyone goes to weave their tales to eager listeners. There is nothing better than  sitting down, having a drink, smoking a pipe and getting lost in a lovely or perhaps even a spooky story.. Lets be honest everyone enjoys a story but often once a story is told it is almost immediately. That is not the case when a tale is told at the Swan, it begins to take on a life of it's own.  One dark night during the Winter Solstice a broken and beaten man walks into the Swan holding the body of a young girl. Everyone is certain she is dead and they most certainly are right until all of the sudden she begins to breathe once again. From there the stories gets even more interesting. This is a lovely, well written story that will hold your interest. ...
